Club Captains

Simon Taylor

Club Captain

Having been a member for nearly 10 years, I’m now in the privileged position of welcoming visitors and members to Okehampton Golf Club.  I have played golf for about 30 years at various clubs, such as Cowdray Park, before moving down to Devon.

Okehampton is a very friendly, sociable golf club and I feel very lucky to be part of this community.  The Pros are superb at what they do, the greenkeepers work exceptionally hard to maintain our beautiful course, the clubhouse catering is excellent, provided by David Wills Catering, and thankfully for me, we have the best secretary in the country!

We are all so proud of the very successful ladies team, the (very active) seniors team, the winning Dartmoor League team, and I am looking forward to the juniors making their mark in 2019.

My chosen charity this year is National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society in support of my wife, who has this condition.  The NRAS is the UK’s only patient led organisation specialising in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. It supports those affected, their families and the health professionals who treat them.  Although very small, they care passionately about this cause and I am proud to sponsor them this year.

We welcome all new members and visitors – so come along and join us for a game of golf, dine with us, or visit our well stocked Pro Shop.

I look forward to meeting you.

Maggie Caws
Lady Captain

I joined Okehampton Golf Club in September 2013 having played at Torrington for just a year.  I was new to golf and learnt from our wonderful  golf professional Ashley.  The ladies of Okehampton are known as “the Lilac ladies” due to our team colours. They are a friendly, welcoming small band of ladies who love their golf and are supportive of each other. We are a very competitive bunch and most of us are vying for places in the teams!  Should anyone reading this think they would like to join us please come along and you will be assured of a warm welcome.  My charity this year is BCW which is bowel cancer west.  Have a look at the diary and come and see us on our coffee morning and fashion show (22nd March) You will get a feel of the great atmosphere that we have at the club.
